Bongos with Bananas !!! This might sound crazy in the beginning but it is true. Thanks to the Makey Makey board, you can connect fruits and vegetables as keyboard inputs to computer and do some cool stuff with it.

In this Instructable, I'll show you how to use the Makey Makey with bananas and play bongos with them.

Step 1: Stuff You Need

The things you need to perform this fun experiment are:

  • Makey Makey Classic.
  • Few Connecting Wires.
  • Bananas or Any Fruit or Vegetables.
  • A computer to connect to.

Step 2: What Is Makey Makey?

Makey Makey is an invention kit for the 21st century. Turn everyday objects into touchpads and combine them with the internet. It's a simple Invention Kit for Beginners and Experts doing art, engineering, and everything inbetween.

There are a variety of ports available on the Makey Makey, which represents different keys on the keyboard.

Step 3: How Does It Work?

Connect the Makey Makey board to a computer. The computer will by default recognize the board as a keyboard. Now connect an object to the Makey Makey board using an Alligator clip or any connecting wire. Connect another wire to the Earth ports of the Makey Makey. Hold the other end coming out of the Earth Port with your hand.

Now you have two open connections. When you touch the object with the other hand, you complete the circuit and the computer thinks that a particular key is pressed on the keyboard. This leads to performing actions on the computer.

Step 4: The Connections

Follow the picture and make the connections.

If you look at the Makey Makey closely, on one side there is the direction keys, space and the left mouse click. This can be used for simple programs like the bongos.

On the other side, there are ports for more keys to be added via jumper cables. You can use these if you intend to play a game with the Makey Makey.

Step 5: Let's Play Bongos

After you are done with all the connections, you'll see that the LEDs on the Makey Makey turn on. Now to play the bongos you need to open up the Bongos app in their official website. You can go there by clicking here. That's it. You can go ahead and enjoy the bongos. This is also a fun way to learn how circuits work.
