This is not really an instructable but more of an idea. I do a lot of work in my carport where there is more room but no benches to put anything on. I needed a portable workbench and so this was created. It's light, can hold heavy tools (like the 10" mitre saw), and it's portable. Very handy to have.

Step 1: How It's Built

The metal frame is from an old barbecue that I got off of Craigslist for free . I needed parts from the barbecue for other projects and after stripping the barbecue, the frame was left over. Since I don't like wasting anything I decided to turn it into a portable workbench. I did strengthen the frame by welding it better but if you decide to try this you might come up with a different idea.

The wood came from an IKEA bed frame someone had given me and the slats fit perfectly, with just a little tightness! I got lucky on that one. You could use plywood or whatever else wood you have around or can find for free. The slats are screwed into a board running across the bottom and that board is screwed into the frame. You can see the details in the pictures.

The workbench is so handy and light and the wheels make it easy to move around. Another shelf could be put in underneath and an electrical hookup could be added, but that might be another day.

This bench cost me $0 since I already had everything. The screws were extra from a different project.
