Introduction: Prank Juice

An easy and fast edible prank that is silly, harmless, and wins everyone over with smiles in the end.

Pranks can be fun, especially for the one pulling the prank. That being said, they aren't always fun for the other person. Pranks can be especially hard when you're pulling them on kids. So why not pull a prank that ends in laughter and a mouth full of jello rather than tears? Thats where "prank juice" comes in, it's fun, will get a few laughs and everyone gets to eat jello in the end. I call that a win-win!

Enjoy!

Step 1: Things You'll Need

You'll need the following:

  • 1 3/4 Cups Fruit Juice*

  • 1 Tablespoon of Unflavored Gelatin

  • 1/4 Cup of Boiling Water

  • Whisk

  • A Glass or Cup, preferably see through

  • Straw

For this Instructable, I decided to make my own homemade jello. If you'd prefer to use name brand jello or another jello mix package, omit my first three bulleted ingredients above and follow the directions on your jello mix package.

*A NOTE ON JUICE: when picking your juice, remember that it will effect the consistency of your final product. I went with a light and translucent juice so that it would look like juice in the final product and so that the straw detail would come through. If you pick an opaque juice, it may give itself away as solid when it is in jello form.

**A TIP FOR ADULTS: Substitute 1/4-1/2 of your juice with vodka or alcohol of your choice and you'll have alcoholic jello in the end!

Step 2: Bloom Your Gelatin

First things first, you'll need to bloom your gelatin.

Pour 1/4 Cup of your juice into a measuring cup or mixing bowl. Sprinkle in all of your powdered gelatin. Whisk until the mixture begins to thicken. Let the gelatin sit for roughly 3 minutes, allowing time for the gelatin to bloom.

Blooming your gelatin is essentially allowing it to rehydrate and swell--growing in size. Blooming also ensure a smooth texture in your finished jello product. You can only bloom gelatin in cold or room temperature liquids as boiling liquids will not always allow the gelatin to set properly. You should also avoid freshly squeezed tropical fruit juices (mango, kiwi, papaya, and pineapple) since they will all have an enzyme that eats your gelatin. If the juices have already been pasteurized, you shouldn't have a problem.

Step 3: Hot Water

Once your gelatin has bloomed and thickened, add 1/4 cup of boiling water. Mix with your whisk until your bloomed gelatin is completely and evenly dissolved.

Step 4: Finish With Juice

Add the remaining 1 1/2 cups of fruit juice. Whisk to mix evenly. At this point your jello is almost ready to set!

Step 5: Pour and Set

Choose your glass you'd like to use in this prank. Place a straw in it. You'll want to place your straw in before the jello has set so that it doesn't disturb your solid jello later.

Pour in your jello mixture. Place in your refrigerator for at least two hours, allowing your jello to set up. You'll want to make sure that your jello glass is setting up at the back of your fridge, or in a location where it won't be disturbed while it's becoming solid.

Step 6: Done!

You're done. Serve up your juice at your next meal or thirst quenching opportunity! Get ready for laughs and I hope you have a spoon in your pocket for the jello!

Enjoy.
