Introduction: Properties of Exponents (Algebra 2 SOL Review)

This is a properties of exponents SOL review problem set. These questions are coming directly from an algebra 2 SOL review packet, so use it wisely! I really hope this is useful!

Supplies

1) Memorize the formulas given

2) The 2nd picture is examples of how to solve properties of exponents.

Step 1: D⁶∙d⁴

d⁶∙d⁴ = d⁶⁺⁴ = d¹⁰

Step 2: X⁵∙x⁻⁸

x⁵ ∙ x⁻⁸ = x⁵ ∙ 1/x⁸ = x⁵/x⁸ = x⁵⁻⁸ = x⁻³ = 1/x³

Step 3: (8⁰)²

(8⁰)²

8⁰ = 1

1² = 1

Step 4: (3/5)⁻³

(3/5)⁻³ = 3⁻³/5⁻³ = 5³/3³ = 125/27

Step 5: (-5s/t³)²

(-5s/t³)² = (-5s)²/(t³)²

(-5s)² = 25s²

(t³)² = t⁶

25s²/t⁶

Step 6: (-3x⁻⁴)/(y²z⁻¹)

(-3x⁻⁴)/(y²z⁻¹) = -3z¹/x⁴y² = -(3z¹/x⁴y²)

Step 7: (-2jk)³ ∙ (1/3 J²k⁵)²

(-2jk)³ ∙ (1/3 j²k⁵)²

(-2jk)³ = -8j³k³

(1/3 j²k⁵)² = 1/9 j⁴k¹⁰

 -8j³k³ ∙ 1/9 j⁴k¹⁰ = -8/9 j⁷k¹³

Step 8: (a²b)/(-4a⁻³b²)³

(a²b)/(-4a⁻³b²)³

(-4a⁻³b²)³ = -64a⁻⁹b⁶

a²b/-64a⁻⁹b⁶ = a² ∙ a⁹ b/-64 b⁶ = a¹¹/-64b⁵
