Introduction: Puff Pastry Chocolate Churros Christmas Tree

This deluxe chocolate Christmas tree is so easy to make, with only an hour left to prepare, make and bake this scrumptious dessert is for you. For those who want to make this extra festive, substitute the chocolate spread for Nutella to give it an extra nutty taste. In addition, we will be giving our Christmas tree a Spanish twist: we will make it taste like Churros. Yay!

Step 1: Ingredients

1) 2x Pre-rolled puff pastry sheets.

2) 1 Egg (for egg wash)

3) 2 tablespoons sugar

4) 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

5) 1 Jar of Chocolate Spread or Nutella

5) Table/butter knife

Step 2: Equipment

1) Baking Parchment

2) Large Baking Tray

3) Sharp Knife (only use if supervised by an adult!)

4) Chopping Board (optional)

5) Star cutter (optional)

Step 3: Method

Line baking tray with parchment paper

Open the puff pastry and open it out on the chopping board or a surface, leave the included baking parchment on for now.

Open up the second pastry box and lay on top of the first layer, but take off the parchment paper first, you may need someone to help you. Ensure that you don't press down on the pastry because otherwise, it may be hard to unstick.

Cut through the pastry, forming a Christmas tree shape, don't forget to leave the stump and don't throw away any excess pastry. Separate the two layers and place one onto the pre-lined baking tray, leaving the other one on the board.

Using a butter knife scoop a large dollop of chocolate spread into the middle of the puff pastry that is on the baking tray, cover the whole Christmas tree with chocolate, leaving a 1cm border.

Optional: using the egg wash, cover the borders with it.

Get the other layer (non-chocolate covered) and place on top of the other layer- ensure that they are aligned precisely.

Now, for the fun part: working from the right-hand side. Measure an inch up from the bottom and make a small mark, same for the left-hand side, continuing to the very top of your tree. Find the center line of the Christmas tree and measure approximately 0,5 inches either side. If it helps mark these lines out but don't cut through any of the pastry. Once you have done this, cut from the mark from the edges to the middle, cutting up to your gap, do this on both sides until you have reached the top.

From the bottom work your way up twisting the branches once or twice, to create a professional effect.

Using a star cutter, cut out 2 alike stars and fill with chocolate, place at the top of your tree.

Cover all the pastry that you can see with an egg-wash, this makes the pastry have a lovely golden colour. Mix together your sugar and cinnamon and sprinkle for a delicious Churros flavour, bake at 180 degrees Celcius for approximately 20 minutes- or until golden brown.

Serve warm or cold, with a beautiful chocolate sauce.
