Lord Shiva is a Hindu God. He's sometimes represented as this Lingam in Hindu temples. I decided to make this for my Bhratanatyam Guru as a thank-you gift. This took me two hours to complete and quite a lot of black strips. But it was definitely worth the effort and wait!

Step 1: Assemble Pieces

For the base:
Make a tight coil. 10 black strips needed. Mold onto quilling mold as necessary.
For the top:
Make a tight coil. 15 strips needed. Mold onto quilling mold as necessary.
For the lingam:
Make 6 tight coils. 4 strips needed for each. Glue 5 coils on top of each other. Mold the sixth coil on the quilling mold as necessary and glue the insides to keep it firm. Once dried, glue to the top of the other 4-strip coils.
For the extra piece:
Make one tight coil. 4 strips needed. Mold it slightly into a dome, then shape it into a slight marquise.

Step 2: Glue the Pieces Together

Glue the pieces as shown. Hold them for 30 seconds each. Let them whole piece dry for a few minutes.

Step 3: Finishing Touches.

To make the Tilaka (the marks) cut three equal sized strips of white paper for the vibhuthi (the white lines). Glue them on carefully. Then use yellow marker to apply 'sandal'. Lastly, use red marker to apply 'kumkum'. Your Shiva Lingam is finished! Enjoy!
