Introduction: Rainbow Bread

As a child, I always loved adding food colouring to everything I baked, from pancakes to cupcakes and now bread. This is a fun, different idea that is sure to impress kids of any age.

Rainbow bread would make a fun addition to any child's lunch box.

Step 1: Collect Ingredients

- 330 ml lukewarm water

- 1 teaspoon sugar

- 11 grams dry active yeast

- 1/2 teaspoon salt

- 12 grams oil

- 500 grams white bread flour

- Food Colouring

Step 2: Prove the Yeast

Once you have 330 ml of lukewarm water, add and dissolve 1 teaspoon of sugar into it and pour in the yeast. Allow this to sit for 15 minutes until the top is foamy.

Step 3: Add Oil and Salt to the Yeast

Add 12 g of oil and 1/2 teaspoon of salt to the proved yeast and mix it in.

Step 4: Mix the Yeast With the Flour

Measure 500g of flour in a bowl and add the yeast mix to this flour. To mix these two together and create my dough I used an electric beater, with a dough hook. Turn to speed "1" for 2 minutes.

Step 5: Colouring the Dough

Separate the dough into three even parts, place each part in a separate bowl. Add your desired colour and amount of food colouring to the dough.

I ended up adding 1/4 teaspoon of food colouring, to receive the vibrant solid colours that I got.

Once you have added the food colouring, mix the dough in the electric beater on speed "2" for 4 minutes.

Repeat this for all three colours of dough.

Step 6: Leave to Rise

Place the dough in a lightly greased bowl, and cover it with glad wrap. Leave the dough to prove for 1 hour at room temperature. Allow it to rise until it is twice its original size.

Preferably a large bowl as I found that the dough rose larger than the bowl and stuck to the glad wrap.

Step 7: Kneading the Dough

Place some flour on a bench and gently knead the dough to mix the colours together.

I used the bread flour but you can use any type of flour on the bench

Step 8: Leave to Rise

Place the dough into the bread tin and cover it with glad wrap. Let it sit for 30 minutes to allow it to rise.

To match the fun theme I used a round cake tin to bake my bread

Preheat oven to 220 degrees.

Step 9: Cooking the Bread

Place the dough into preheated oven for 30 minutes.

Once it is cooked remove it from the pan and place it on a wire rack to cool.

Serve with your choice of toppings.
