Supplies

• Raspberry Pi board (e.g., Raspberry Pi 4)
• MicroSD card (with at least 16GB recommended)
• Power supply (usually micro USB)
• HDMI cable
• Keyboard and mouse
• Monitor or TV with HDMI input
• Case (optional but recommended for protection)
• Ethernet cable or Wi-Fi dongle (optional, for internet connectivity)

Step 1: Prepare the MicroSD Card

1. Download the operating system (OS) for Raspberry Pi. The official OS is Raspberry Pi OS (formerly Raspbian), available for free on the Raspberry Pi website.
2. Use a tool like Etcher (available for Windows, macOS, and Linux) to flash the OS image onto the microSD card.
3. Insert the microSD card into your computer.

Step 2: Install the Operating System

1. Open Etcher and select the OS image file you downloaded.
2. Choose the microSD card as the target drive.
3. Click 'Flash' and wait for the process to complete.
4. Safely eject the microSD card from your computer.

Step 3: Assemble the Hardware

1. Insert the microSD card into the Raspberry Pi.
2. Connect the Raspberry Pi to a monitor or TV using the HDMI cable.
3. Plug in the keyboard and mouse into the USB ports.
4. Connect the power supply to the Raspberry Pi.

Step 4: Boot Up and Configure

1. Turn on the power supply.
2. The Raspberry Pi should boot up, and you'll see the Raspberry Pi OS desktop on the monitor.
3. Follow the on-screen prompts to set up the initial configuration, including language, keyboard layout, and Wi-Fi network (if applicable).
4. Once the initial setup is complete, you'll be taken to the desktop environment.

Step 5: Explore and Customize

1. Explore the Raspberry Pi OS desktop and its pre-installed applications.
2. Customize the system settings, such as display resolution, background, and preferences.
3. Install additional software and packages using the package manager or terminal commands.
4. Experiment with programming languages, projects, and accessories compatible with Raspberry Pi.

Step 6: Shut Down Properly

1. When you're finished using the Raspberry Pi, shut it down properly to avoid data corruption.
2. Click on the Raspberry Pi icon in the top-left corner of the desktop, navigate to 'Shutdown,' and select 'Shutdown' again.
3. Wait for the Raspberry Pi to power off completely before disconnecting the power supply.
