Step 1: Steering Issues
CUSTOMER DROPPED OFF POWER WHEELS TANK WITH STEERING ISSUES
This particular ride on had a documented problem with the steering motherboard,so manufacturer sent out replacement motherboards.
Step 2: Diagnose the Main Problem
After replacing the motherboard, steering was not working , I disconnected the gearbox steering and found the motor was full of rust.
Step 3: Removing Steering Gearbox
Once I disconnected the wiring the gearbox lifted straight out. Then removed the casing and removed the two screws holding the motor.
Step 4: Cleaning and Inspecting the Motor
Some gearboxes have the two screw accessible with out opening the casing, but most are internal.
Once you open the casing take a picture of the gear cogs . When it’s time to reassemble the casing you will have a record of how to put them back together. When you remove the gear cogs you will see the two screw holding the motor connected. After pulling out the motor , I tried to spin the motor with my personal battery charger it would not spin . I thenI gave it a lubricant bath and cleaned up the rust with the wire brush. I then re tested it with my personal battery charger and it worked fine. I then reassembled the steering gearbox and installed it in the vehicle. I tested out the steering and it worked as it should.
