Replace a Sway Bar Link

Introduction: Replace a Sway Bar Link

About: I'm a husband and father that loves working in the garage. From sewing to welding to wrenching on engines and everything in between.

We've noticed a clunking noise coming from the front suspension of my wife's van for over a year. It was only noticeable at slow speeds over rough terrain. Recently, another creaking noise developed so I figured it was time to look into it. Turns out that the sway bar link was bad. After a quick and fairly cheap replacement, the noise is gone. Check out the video to see how to perform this repair on a 2005-2010 Honda Odyssey. The process of replacement is very similar on other vehicles.

Nice! I'm guessing this can't be too different on a 01, right? Our Odyssey is literally in the shop right now, and the sway bars is one of the things they said "needed" to be fixed. Glad I passed on it, as you made this look very do-able.

    Nice timing!

Looking at the parts diagrams between the two years ('01 & '05) they look virtually the same. The part numbers are different, but it looks like the same setup. I'd definitely check it out yourself. If the links check out ok, but you still have some noise, the bushings may be worn and can cause some noise too. They just have a nut on each side that needs to be removed and then a metal strap will lift off the top of the bushing. Slide the bushing towards you and then spread it apart to release it from the stabilizer bar. It's split on the bottom to allow it to be easily removed/installed. They recommend a light coating of silicone grease on the sway bar where the bushing rests, just to prevent any squeaking. Feel free to send me questions if you have any.
