Introduction: Sight Word Stomp
Using the Makey Makey, I constructed pressure switches to make an interactive, movement sight word practice activity.
Supplies
Supplies:
Cardboard squares EVA Foam or bubble wrap Tinfoil Double Stick Tape Decorative Paper Labels
Step 1: Constructing Pressure Switches
I took two squares of cardboard, lined each side with foil. I added a strip of foil to each side of cardboard.
Step 2: Constructing Pressure Switches
I cut a square of EVA foam out, then cut the middle of the foam out. I glued the foam to one cardboard square.
Step 3: Constructing Pressure Switch
Next I glued the other cardboard square on top. I made sure that the tinfoil strips were on opposite sides.
Step 4: Constructing Pressure Switches
Then I glued a piece of decorative paper to the top of the pressure switch. On top of the paper I put a label and wrote one of our sight words on the label.
Step 5: Coding Sight Word Stomp
After I completed four pressure switches, I opened up Scratch - you will need to create an account - and coded each pressure switch to say their respective sight word. I hooked the Makey Makey up to the pressure switches and the computer. Each time the pressure switch is stepped on, the computer says the word.
