Introduction: Simple Summer Smoothie

This is my recipe for a simple summer smoothie! It is great to have for breakfast, or as a refreshing treat after spending a day in the sun. I like to use ingredients that are always in my home, and this is easy because there are only 5 ingredients in this concoction!

Supplies

1 cup frozen cubed watermelon

1/2 cup berry blend fruit

1/2 cup 2% milk

3 tbsp vanilla yogurt

1 tsp chia seeds

Blender (I use the ninja blender)

Measuring cup

Tablespoon

Teaspoon

Step 1: Arrange All Your Ingredients

Lay all your ingredients out on the table so that you know where everything is. Also, determine which fruits you would like to include in your smoothie. I used watermelon and mixed berries, however mango, pineapple, blueberries, and peaches are also ingredients that work well. Think of your favourite fruit and add it to the mix. It surely will not disappoint you!

Step 2: Add Watermelon

Measure one cup of watermelon in your measuring cup, and then pour it into your blending cup. Watermelon is one of the lowest fruits in calories, and contains vitamin C, vitamin A, potassium and magnesium. It also helps keep you hydrated, which is important on hot and humid summer days.

Step 3: Add Milk

Measure 1/2 a cup of 2% milk, and pour into the blending cup.

Step 4: Add Yogurt

Measure 3 tablespoons of vanilla yogurt, and add to the blending cup. Yogurt provides almost every nutrient that your body needs. It is high in calcium, protein, and may benefit digestive health.

Step 5: Blend Ingredients

Blend all the ingredients together. The Ninja blender has a setting called PULSE. This button works at medium speed and stops when you release the button. I find that this is the best setting to use so that the big chunks are broken apart and blended nicely.

Step 6: Add Berry Blend

Measure 1/2 a cup of mixed berries, and add to the blending cup. Blend all the ingredients together on the PULSE setting. Berries are an excellent source of antioxidants such as anthocyanins, and may improve your blood sugar and insulin levels. Berries are also a good source of fibre.

Step 7: Add Chia Seeds

Measure 1 teaspoon of chia seeds, and add to the blending cup. Chia seeds are an excellent source of omega-3 fatty acids, rich in antioxidants, and provide an excellent source of fibre, iron and calcium.

Step 8: Blend Together

Blend all the ingredients together on LOW. This way the chia seeds are not broken apart.

Step 9: Simple Summer Smoothie Completed!

Voila! You have a super tasty summer smoothie to drink on your patio, or with a delicious meal!
