Introduction: Simple and Easy Burnt Wood Tree Sunset Art (90 Second Video)
Welcome to our first episode of 90 Seconds of Art. In this episode we will be making a burnt wood tree sunset. Its simple and fun, and if you are in a hurry, just watch our 90 second video on the process!
Things You'll Need
- A Block of Wood
- Paint
- Paint Brush
- Soldering Iron or Wood Burner
Step 1: Painting the Background
Dilute the paint with some water and brush it along the outside of the board, leaving the middle section for the sun. Remember this is a sunset, so use reds, purples, oranges, blues and greens. Water each of these down, brush them on and mix them with a damp paper tower.
Step 2: Draw Your Tree Onto the Wood
We just looked at a photo online and sketched out a tree we liked. Then we rubbed the backside of the paper with graphite, flipped it right side up on the board, and traced the outline of the tree. We went back over it to darken the lines.
Step 3: Burning the Wood
For this step, you can use either a soldering iron or a wood burner. We used a soldering iron and it worked just fine. Be really careful not to burn yourself!! The smoke can also irritate your eyes!
Trace the outline of the tree with your burning tool. Fill in the tree by pressing the tip into the wood at a steep angle and rolling it. This will give the wood a bumpy texture that appears 3D.
Play around with different ways of holding, dragging and rolling the ironing tool to get the right burn.
Step 4: Add a Hanger and Share Your Creation!
And you are done! Just added a hanger to the back call it a day! Leaving it unsealed makes it feel and look more natural and preserves the texture of the burnt wood!
