Introduction: Spiral Bread

Spiral bread is one of my favorite snacks or party bread bites that my mother makes. It is also very easy to make, so you can make a whole bunch of them for parties or gatherings. What you need to make these salty goodies is:

Dough

- 700g of flour,

- 1,5 packs (10g) of yeast (I used dry yeast, but it works just as well with fresh),

- 0,5 L milk,

- 3 tablespoons of sugar,

- 3 tablespoons of olive oil,

- 1 teaspoon of salt

Filling

- 150g butter,

- 4 egg yolk,

- 4 tablespoons of salt,

- red pesto,

- green pesto,

- black sesame seeds

Step 1: Steo 1: Make the Dough and the Filling

To make the dough, heat some milk and mix it with the yeast and sugar. After it rises, mix that with the oil, salt and the rest of the milk. The dough will be a bit more sticky and less firm than your regular bread dough. The dough does not need to rise, you just mix it and you're good to go.

While you wait for the yeast to rise, you can prepare the filling.

Combine the salt, butter, and two egg yolks and mix until homogenized. Make the green spread by mixing one egg yolk, one tablespoon of green pesto and some salt and butter in needed (that depends on the type of pesto you have). Do the same for the red spread but this time instead of using green pesto use red pesto.

Feel free to experiment with the filling and please share the results (I know it's also good to add bacon inside).

Step 2: Step 2: Roll Out

Now that you have everything ready, separate the dough into 4 parts and roll the first one to somewhere around 0,5mm and spread half of the butter mix on it. Then roll it back together and cut into 1cm pieces.

For the black spirals do the same and add black sesame seeds on the spread. After that, the green and red spirals are pretty much self-explanatory :)

Start preheating your oven to 180 degrees Celsius and arrange the spirals on your baking tray. Put them flat on the tray and space them out a bit (if you put them together the bread is much softer, and better as a side dish, but if you spread them apart they will be a bit more crunchy).

Bake the spirals for 10 minutes, or until golden brown.

Step 3: Step 3: You Are Done

And now you are done. Best eat them while they are hot :)

Bon appetit!
