Introduction: Stained Glass Mason Jar

As a kid, I loved hands-on activities and crafts. “Stained Glass” mason jars were always a hit at summer camps, and are a craft that keeps on giving. It is a great activity for kids to learn their shapes while having fun. In addition, kids can add their own personality to this by choosing from a variety of colored tissue paper. After, it can be used however the creator wants: gift it to someone, fill it with water and flowers to make it a vase, use it as a pencil holder, or have a cold glass of lemonade out of it. I had so much fun making this, and I hope you and your kids do, too!

Supplies

mason jar

assorted tissue paper

mod podge (matte or gloss works)

paint brush

scissors

Step 1: Cut the Tissue Paper

Cut the tissue paper into squares. Roughly 1 inch x 1 inch

*cut out different shapes for a unique look*

Step 2: Prep Area With Mod Podge

Apply mod podge to a small section of the outside of the jar.

Step 3: Layer the First Piece of Tissue Paper

Stick a square of tissue paper on the mod-podged area.

Step 4: Cover With Mod Podge

Paint over the tissue paper with more mod podge.

Step 5: Repeat Steps 2-4

Continue prepping the area, sticking the tissue paper, and sealing with more mod podge until the entire jar is covered.

Step 6: Finish

Let it dry overnight. In the end you have a beautiful jar that you can use any way you want! Some ideas: use it as a pencil/pen holder, put battery-powered lights or candle in it for a colorful glow, or use it as a vase!
