Introduction: How to Make Chocolate Stained Glass Windows

This is a recipe for a dessert my grandma always makes around Christmas time. These stained glass window treats don't require any baking and kids are sure to love them!

Prep time: About 20 minutes

Total Time: 2 hours +

Step 1: Ingredients and Materials

To make this dessert, you will need:

-1 stick of butter or 1/2 cup of margarine

-1 (12 ounce) package of semisweet chocolate chips

-1 (10.5 ounce) package of multicolored marshmallows (Sometimes these are hard to find, so just use white marshmallows if necessary)

-1 cup of chopped walnuts (optional)

-A little bit of powdered sugar

-Microwave and microwavable bowl (or a stove and pan)

-Mixing spoon

-Aluminum foil (or wax paper)

Step 2: Combine Butter and Chocolate

In a large microwavable bowl, combine the butter and chocolate chips. Microwave on high until mixture is fully melted. Take it out and stir until the chocolate and butter are completely mixed together and the mixture is smooth.

When I made this recipe, I microwaved the mixture for 1 minute, then removed it and stirred the ingredients together. The mixture was still a little lumpy, so I put the bowl back into the microwave for 20 more seconds. After that the mixture was completely melted so I took it out and finished stirring. Depending on your microwave, you may have to adjust these times a bit. Just make sure you microwave for long enough that the mixture is smooth.

Note: If you want to use a stove instead of a microwave, you can. Just melt the butter and chocolate in a pan over low heat.

Step 3: Add the Marshmallows

Let the mixture sit until it is cool enough to touch, but don't let it harden. Stir in the marshmallows. Make sure they are completely coated in the chocolate mixture. You also might find it easier to pour the chocolate over the marshmallows.

I didn't use the entire bag of marshmallows when I was making the recipe. I probably mixed in about 4/5 of the bag. You can judge for yourself what seems like the right amount of marshmallows to add. If you can't coat them all with the chocolate, it is probably too much.

Note: If you wish to include chopped walnuts, stir them in at this step as well.

Step 4: Spoon the Mixture on to the Foil

Take the mixture that you made and spoon it into a log shape lengthwise down the center of a flat, rectangular sheet of aluminum foil. Wrap the sides of the foil up around the mixture and gently twist both ends of the sheet like you would with a candy wrapper to seal them shut.

I made mine into two logs that were each about 8 to 9 inches long. The size all depends on how long you make them and how high you spoon the mixture.

Once you have finished wrapping the logs, refrigerate for at at least two hours.

Step 5: Dust With Powdered Sugar and Serve

When you are ready to serve, unwrap the log and dust it with powdered sugar. I used a spoon to do this. Cut into pieces the same way you would slice bread.

Make sure you keep any leftovers refrigerated.

Step 6: Enjoy!
