Introduction: Stitch Cards / Bookmarks + FREE PRINTABLE

About: I am an Industrial Designer, who obviously loves to create. Now that I am a mom, most of my creations are inspired by my daughers. I believe that if more parents were making stuff with their kids, the world wo…

My daughter loves sewing cards, I love them too because they help her to develop motor skills. The problem with the normal stitch cards is that although they are fun, once kids finish them they go to a drawer. I wanted to make something that could be displayed to take advantage of all her hard work. My daughter is really proud of her bookmarks, she loved this activity.

Step 1: Gather Your Materials

  • A small towel
  • Embroidery needle
  • Embroidery thread
  • Scissors
  • Print this free file. Preferably on card stock.

If you can't print it on cardstock you'll need:

  • A cereal box
  • Glue stick

So that you can glue the printout into the cardboard

Step 2: Punch It

Protect the surface with the towel. With the needle pierce the cardboard where the circles are marked.

Step 3: Let the Kids Have Fun

Now the kids can have fun. Maybe you'll have to help them with the first knot.

As you can see in the pictures, they can go once to make a dashed border or twice to make it a continuous line.

Step 4: Cut

Finally you have to make the final knot and trim the bookmarks leaving a small edge. Be careful not to cut tangled thread at the back.

Cut out the paws trough the dashed line so that the animal can hug the book.

Enjoy!
