In this instructable you'll learn how to convert a regular 9 volt battery into a super tiny, super bright, LED flashlight.

Here's what you'll need

2 x 1 watt LED's ( I got mine from an old LED spot light)
1 x USED 9 v battery ( The LED's will burn if the voltage exceeds 8v)
Electrical tape
Copper wire (salvaged)
1 x Micro momentary switch (Salvaged from old DVD player)
Super glue

Tools

Wire stripper (or a good set of teeth)
Soldering Iron and Solder
Multimeter or Voltmeter (Handy but not required)

Step 2:

Let's begin by checking the voltage of our battery using a voltmeter or multimeter. You only need to use this if you don't know if your battery is slightly discharged or not. The LED's are apparently rated for up to 4 volts so running them around 8 volts will be really pushing them to peak. I've tried using fresh 9 volt batteries and ended up burning a couple of LEDs. -

Step 3:

Solder your LEDs in series with lead wires attached at the negative and positive end. Test the LEDs on the battery to ensure that the solder joints were made correctly and that the polarity is correct.

Step 4:

Insulate the bottom end of the battery as shown and then use super glue to mount the LED 'array' at the base of the battery.

Step 5:

Next, wire your momentary switch to the positive lead wire and use super glue to mount it onto the battery.

Step 6:

Trim off the lead wires and solder them to the appropriate terminal and push the momentary switch several times to make sure it works properly.

Once you are satisfied, insulate the rest of the battery to neaten things up. You can now take on the night with this 300 lumen, super bright LED flashlight!
