Introduction: Superkeks

Superkeks (supercookie) is our Christmas gift for friends and family that's been around for years now, each year a little bit different and a bit improved.

The idea behind it was to find a little something we would give to all our loved ones, that was affordable but from the heart.

So we made a tray of nutella cookies, printed the labels, wraped them up and share them around. They were a huge success, so we repeated them the next year, and the next until it became a tradition.

So what's so great (super) about this particular cookie?

It's great because it can make your wish for the next year come true (at least that's what it says on the label). All you have to do is make the wish, eat the cookie and then you have a year to work on making your wish come true:) But hurry because a year can pass before you can say cookie. (in Croatian it makes much more sence because that's our version of the idiom before you can say Jack Robinson)

Step 1: 1. Generation Wrapping

Thanks to my mother who did't eat any of her cookie though the years we managed to capture this photos.

The first few years the cookie was wrapped in alluminium foil and then in 5x21cm paper strip cut out from A4 paper on which we printed the design. There were all kinds of shapes and sizes at that time.

Step 2: Stencils

After a few years from doing it the old school, we made our own stencils and cutters and now all the cookies are looking pretty much the same. The cutter is made from 2 pieces of 3mm thick plexiglass glued together on top of each other - of course it can be done from 1 piece 5mm thickness.

Step 3: The Cookie Recipe

10dkg butter at room temperature (it should be as soft as possible)

20dkg nutella

5g vanilla sugar

1 egg

30dkg plain flour

1/2 teaspoon baking powder

a bit of salt

a bit of cinnamon or other spices of your choice

Combine all the ingredients from the top down using your hands until you get a smooth dough.

Wrap it up in cling wrap and refrigirate for at least two hours.

Preheat the oven at 180C.

Step 4: Cutting

Work the dough a bit so it stops crumbling and roll it between two baking sheets cca 3-4mm thick.

Cut the shape with the cutter, press the stencil while the cutter is still around the cookie, move the cutter around so the cookie detaches from itand from the sheet below, lift it carefully from the sheet to the baking tray (also coverred with baking sheet) place them at least 1cm apart from each other and bake them around 12min.

When they're finished they should still be a bit soft if you gently press them, they will harden fast. They can burn really quickly so be carefull. Eat the ones that didn't come out perfect, and let the others cool down.

Step 5: 2. Generation - the Revolution

In 2014 we modified the package design. It was done on a laser cutter and had a clever opening design. The children loved to tear the strip away, they loved the cookies just the same.

Step 6: 3. Generation - Family Pack

As our friends all got married with children it called for another change and we made a family pack with four cookies inside.

Merry Christmas everyone!
