Introduction: The Shoe Shelf

This shoe shelf was designed to be a place for me to place my shoes that would keep them off the floor and display them in a way that would look cool in my room. The shelves are removable and adjustable, allowing for the customization of shelf heights, and easier transportation of the shelf. The remote-controlled color-changing LED's light up each shelf and add to the overall aesthetic of my room.

Step 1: Gather Materials and Tools

Step 2: Measure and Saw Boards

I started by measuring and marking all my boards to the appropriate lengths using a tape measure, speed square, and a pencil. Then, I was able to cut my boards using a miter saw.

Step 3: Assemble Box and Attach Base

Next, I assembled my pieces to make the box for my shelf and to attach the base using screws and a drill.

Step 4: Add Shelving

I added slotted shelving runners to the back of my shelf. Then, I screwed my wooden shelves to each bracket and inserted them into the runners.

Step 5: Glue Shelves Together

I layered 1'x1' sheet aluminum and lexan I cut using a scoring knife for aesthetics when combined with the LED's lights on my shelf. I adhered each part of the shelf together using clear gorilla glue and let each shelf sit clamped together over night.

Step 6: Finish

I liked the natural wood look of my shelves, so I decided not to add any colored stain or paint to it. Instead, I wiped the wood clean with a rag dampened with mineral spirits, and then layered a coat of wood conditioner on to help seal it and add a little shine.
