Introduction: The Sluice Box

Sluice Box /slo͞os/ noun

"a long, sloping trough... with grooves on the bottom, into which water is directed to separate gold from gravel or sand." (dictionary.com)

I live in the Yukon, and I created this drink in honour of the rich history of gold mining in the Yukon, which continues to this day. The clear water-like vodka is washing away the earth toned Kahlua from the gold of the Yukon Jack.

Step 1: You Will Need...

1/2 oz Yukon Jack

1/4 oz Kahlua (or coffee liquor)

1/4 oz Vodka

1-2 bar spoons, chilled (small teaspoon will do)

1.5 oz shot glass, chilled

Step 2: Steps to Mix

1. Chill bar spoons in ice
2. Pour 1/2 the shot glass of Yukon Jack into a chilled shot glass
3. Hold chilled bar spoon, pressed against the side of the glass over the Yukon Jack, and slowly pour Kahlua over the spoon. It should settle at the bottom of the glass.
4. Hold the second chilled bar spoon, pressed against the side of the glass over the Yukon Jack, and slowly pour vodka over the spoon. It should sit and float above the Yukon Jack.
5. Serve and enjoy!
