Its a fact. Liquor is the best cure for winter blues and nothing helps it go down faster then a sweet hot drink. So here's three fun suggestions to drown out the common cold and warm you up from your addled brain to your stumblin toes.

Lets do this!

**Warning. Unfortunately due to the liquor content, these drinks are not appropriate for work or when operating large machinery. Ho hum.

Step 1: Hot Toddy

This drink has it all, the comfort of hot steamy tea, the curative numbing power of whiskey, set off with the tart lemon which goes down smooth as can be thanks to the sweet honey. This drink coats your throat, warms your tummy and takes away all your aches and pains.

Hot Toddy

  • 1 cup of tea (whatever kind you prefer)
  • whiskey
  • 1-2 slices of lemon
  • 1-2 Tbs honey

Step 2: Hot Buttery Rum

It was snowing buckets in Chicago and I had a knuckle clenching ride home from work. Yes, I am that crazy to ride my bike home through Chicago traffic on roads buried in snow. It would have taken me at least 2 hours to get home on the bus, where it only took an hour on my bike. Everyone was going so slow, I could weave in and out of traffic, fish tailing the whole way. When I finally got home, every muscle ached from the tension. What I needed was a nice hot stiff drink. Luckily, I had some Buttery Rum mix left over from our Christmas party. It was just what the doctor ordered. It worked for me; it could work for you.

Thaw your aching bones with this delicious buttery rum drink.

Hot Buttery Rum Drink
enough for 8-10 mugs

  • 1 c. butter
  • 1 c. brown sugar
  • 2 Tbs cream
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp nutmeg
  • 1/4 tsp cloves
  • Boiling water
  • All the Rum you can handle

Step 3: Hot Cocoa and Schnapps

This is the fastest hot cocoa from scratch there is.

Sometimes you just don't have the Swiss Miss laying around. But if you're like me, you've always got a bottle of peppermint schnapps in the liquor cabinet. Mixing the cocoa and powdered sugar in the schnapps helps emulsify the powders easily so they mix well when blending with the hot milk.

Hot Cocoa with Peppermint Schnapps

  • milk- any percent or skim
  • cocoa powder
  • powdered sugar
  • peppermint schnapps
