Introduction: Tire Picture Frame

My kids are riding unicycle and once in a while they need a new tire.

Inspired from a another project creating a picture frame, I have decided to use the old tire.

What you need:

  • an old tire (pretty obvious)
  • a print of a picture
  • plywood or hardboard
  • glue
  • sandpaper

Tools

  • jigsaw
  • brush
  • cutting blade knife

Step 1: Backplate

Take a pen and draw the inner circle of the tire on the hardboard.

The hardoard needs to be bigger as the inner cricle but not too big , otherwise you won't be able to insert this into the tire. Add 1.5 cm / 0.5 inch and draw another circle to be utilized when cutting the board with the jigsaw.

As the edge won't be visible aftwerwards, you do not need to be very accurate.

In order to glue the picture to the hardboard, I am using wood glue adding 20% of water.

Use a brush to apply a thin coat of wood glue to the hardboard.

After placing the picture on the board use a cloth to remove bubbles. Start from the middle, wiping to the edge. Be sure that the cloth is clean without any glue, otherwise you will ruin the picture.

Let this dry over night.

Step 2: Fixing the Hardboard

After cutting the overhanging picure use sandpaper to have a nice edge. This will help preventing the picture to be torn away when inserting it into the tire.

Small pieces of wood will be added to the back. This will help to center the picture.

Apply some glue and move the piece of wood gently until it adjoins to the tire.
