Hi one and all - here is a cool little mod that worked out dirt cheap for putting a handlebar and brakes onto your uni.
For those who do not ride, it really helps when going down hills to be able to apply a brake instead of relying on pure leg power to slow ya down.

No real tools needed except the basics - spanner/adjustable, allen keys.

Most of the items here were free or very cheap from our good ole pals at Ebay.

Should mention the bike in the picture is not mine, but set up almost exactly the same.

Step 1: One

Sooo - here we see the unit before install.

The handlebars themselves are from Ebay and came from a stunt scooter, the blue clamp came with it as well (cost a tenner and the clamp should have been another tenner too but by pure chance the guy selling must have not wanted it cos it was sold all in one).

The brake lever was free - we have in our family a guy who works for a cycle outlet, he builds the bikes, when folks have upgrades (brakes) the old, perfectly functional ones are taken off and thrown away - I had a chat - he let me have a couple for free, am guessing you could pop into your local and do the same, even if ya had to pay it should only be pennies

Step 2: Two

Here we see the bottom of the handles.

The bracket below the blue clamp is a wheel mount from a scooter that the local kids had thrown away in our bin storage area - the bearings were shot but wow what a great find .

So now I had handlebars and brackets to put the thing together - - but no way of mounting the bugger to my ride - when inspiration struck, I went and got an old saddle from one of our other bikes that was knocking around - popped out the seat post clamp and bugger me if it did'nt slip in sweet as a nut into the rest of the unit - badda bing on she goes onto the uni.

As to brake units, that is gonna be up to you, I found some caliper types on Ebay for £8 but if your feeling posh you might want to go for disks - calipers are great though - to fit just rill a hole through the bottom of the forks and pop em on.

sent the bike into the shop to be cabled up for the brakes to work - - sorted

I have not really gone into any detail about assembly - you guys are not daft and if your hunting around for abstract things that just kinda gel, well anything I say will probably not be relevant.

Think in all, with a bit of scavenging the whole project cost less than £18 - - - reeeeesult

Have fun - hope to see some of your mods and hacks soon.
