Introduction: Upcycle Succulent Chair

About: Find me on Facebook! https:www.Facebook.com/DIYwithCaitlin I'm a passionate DIYer and especially enjoy projects involving bottle cutting, candles, soap, home improvements and succulents.

I found this great wooden chair in an alley and wanted to upcycle it into a succulent planter! Watch the video to see how I did it :)

Step 1: Detach the Seat of the Chair

Unscrew the screws on the under side of the chair and remove the seat from the frame.

Step 2: Cut Plywood

Cut a piece of plywood to the shape of the underside of the chair. Make sure to notch out little sections for the legs of the chair.

Step 3: Attach the Plywood to the Frame

Attach the plywood to the underside of the chair frame. Drill pilot holes first and then drill the screws in. You can also use liquid nails to keep it secure.

Step 4: Time to Paint

Paint the chair your favorite color. I choose a bright teal because I thought it would pop well in the garden. I think yellow or pink would also look great.

Step 5: Plant

Fill the chair with cactus and succulent soil. (Watch the video at the beginning for design tips.)

Pick a focal point, usually your largest succulent and design everything around this plant. When planting this plant create a mound of dirt and plant it at an angle so the face of the plant faces forward.

Dirt and Drainage: Use cactus or well draining soil. Make sure the pot has a way to drain water at the bottom. You don't want soggy succulents.

When you're ready to plant completely expose the roots of the plant. Brush off all dirt. Create mounds of dirt and plant the succulents in them. Everything will sink a couple inches once planted, so this helps keep all your beautiful plants above the rim of your planter.

Add interesting other elements like driftwood, glass rocks, or pinecones.

Step 6: Maintenance Tips

Water once a week and keep in a bright sunny spot.
