Step 1: Step One: Holding the Bow

Make sure that all of your fingers are bent and relaxed. None of your fingers should feel tight but a the same time, make sure to grip your bow well. When you play long notes, you don't play them with your fingers. You should play from your wrist and arm more than your fingers. Make sure to be able to do u and downs in one fluid motions.

Try playing staccatos, open strings, up bow staccatos, and legato if the grip works. Playing scales would always help.

Step 2: Step Two: Playing Open Strings

When playing open strings, you really need to focus on the sound you're projecting. Many people tend to start off with open strings without any careful attention or points. That's no very effective. You can do that for the first few weeks but after a few months, it's a waste of time. However, open strings are very important, so do a few of them and make sure that it doesn't sound bumpy just like a clean surface.

Step 3: Step 3: Check With a Professional/teacher/someone With Knowledge

Once you're confident with your bow hold, it is important to have someone check for you. Just like any other instruments or sports, looks matter. When your perform in front of people, your job isn't JUST to make music. A part of it is to entertain the audience and to make the audiences feel comfortable. A good sound with ugly posture/shape would not be very appetizing. So make sure that you get someone to check for you and to give you some feedback!!
