I hope you enjoy this project and I do believe that this is suitable for crochet beginners - if you are more experienced you can finish this super quickly, and if you are a beginner it requires just a tiny bit more patience.

I have had the yarn I am using for a while and I cannot be 100% sure as to the brand (though I suspect) but any worsted weight or roving weight yarn should work. As for the hook size, use whatever hook size is listed on the skein. Let's get started!

Supplies

2-3 (depending on how long and wide you want the scarf to be) skeins of worsted weight (or roving weight) yarn - I used approximately two skeins of cream colored roving weight 100% wool.
1 crochet hook (size listed on the label of your skein of yarn) - I used size I/5.5mm
1 pair of scissors
1 wool needle

Step 1: Make a Foundation Chain

One thing to take into consideration is that you want your chain to be an odd number of stitches. I use either 43 or 45 - that's just my preference but you can do whatever suits your taste. However long your chain is, that will be the width of your scarf.

Step 2: Crochet One Row of Double Crochet Into the Foundation Chain

This time around, I used a chain-less start technique because I like how the edges turn out but, if you find it easier to chain when you start a new row, that works as well (I have done that in the past as well).

Step 3: Create the "lacy" Row

For the second row (and all the even rows for that matter) you will double crochet (I used chain-less start in the beginning of the row) , chain 1, skip a stitch and double crochet into the next all the way to the end of the row.

Step 4: Add Length to Your Scarf

Alternate rows of double crochet (all odd rows are double crochet) and "lacy" rows (all even rows are lacy) for as long as you want the scarf to be.

I used 124 rows for this scarf. If you are planning on joining the ends together to make it into an "infinity" type scarf, then you will want to end with a lacy row (so end at an even row number) - that way, when you join the first row of the scarf with the last row of the scarf you will have a double crochet row and a lacy row next to one another (just like everywhere else in the scarf). If you are not joining the ends together, then end with a double crochet row so that the ends are symmetric.

Step 5: Finish Off Your Scarf

I chose to sew the ends together with an invisible seam stitch.

Create a foundation chain - ch 45
Row 1 - double crochet into foundation chain - chain- less start dc, 44 dc to end the row
Row 2 - chain-less start dc, ch 1, dc (repeat ch 1+dc to end the row)
Continue alternating rows of double crochet and rows of dc-ch-dc
Sew ends together.
