Introduction: Wholesome Homemade Honey Mask Instructions

Skincare is very important to a lot of people. Some skin and acne products can be harsh on the skin. A honey mask can help not only clear and control acne breakouts, but also moisturize and replenish the skin. Honey is the main component of the mask and it is messy and sticky, but it has several enriching properties.

The ingredients and instructions are very simple and easy to follow. The ingredients are also very cheap and can be found at your local grocery store! This is an easy and doable instructional guide.

Step 1: Required Items

1. Honey - Raw unfiltered honey for best effect

2. Cinnamon

3. Aloe Extract (optional)

4. Lemon Juice (optional)

5. Apple Cider Vinegar With Mother (optional)

6. Mixing Container - Bowl, cup, jar

7. Popsicle Stick

8. Application Brush

Step 2: Add 3 Teaspoons of Honey

You can use your finger or a brush to scrape the honey from the spoon.

Step 3: Add 1/2 Teaspoon of Cinnamon

After adding the cinnamon, stir the substances until it resembles a dark brown paste (Like Nutella).

Be sure to stir ALL the cinnamon into the mixture.

For most accurate measurement of cinnamon, remove the cap off of the cinnamon shaker.

Step 4: Add 1/2 Teaspoon of Aloe Vera

Less is more, too much will affect viscosity.

This is an optional ingredient. Aloe can help soothe and heal irritated skin.

Stir for approximately 15 seconds.

Step 5: Add 1/4 Teaspoon of Apple Cider Vinegar

This is an optional ingredient. Apple cider vinegar can kill bacteria on the skin and clean out the pores.

Apple Cider Vinegar "With Mother" is the preferred brand for best effect.

Stir for approximately 15 seconds.

Step 6: Combatting Runniness

If mixture is too runny, add 1 teaspoon of honey and 1/4 teaspoon of cinnamon and stir.

You can do this at any point in the process if the mixture becomes too runny.

The final mixture should be almost as viscous as honey itself, although a runnier mixture will still work, it is more likely drip off of your skin.

Step 7: Add 1/4 Teaspoon of Lemon Juice

This is an optional ingredient.

Lemon juice helps to prevent acne and clean the pores by killing off bacteria.

WARNING: According to Dr. Joshua Zeichner at Mount Sinai Hospital, lemon juice reacts with sunlight and, can cause phytophotodermatitis, which can result in irritation, blisters, and second degree burns on and underneath the affected area. It's best to apply lemon during the evening and not to expose skin to sunlight for roughly 6 hours after removal.

Step 8: Spread Thoroughly on Skin

The base layer of the honey mask (Honey and Cinnamon) can be left on the skin for as long as desired, even over night.

With all other ingredients (Aloe, Apple Cider Vinegar, Lemon), leave mask on for a maximum of 30 minutes before removal.

Step 9: Storage

Any unused mixture can be stored in a container at room temperature. If stored in fridge, let mixture warm up prior to application.

WARNING: Do not heat in microwave under any circumstances.
