Introduction: Witches Broomsticks!

About: I am an art teacher. I love working with my hands, whether in modge podging, working on the potters wheel, or working on my bicycle. I love to explore places and learn about different things!
This is a really simple, super cute halloween party snack idea. Kids (generally ages 4+) can even help with the food prep on this one! I am going to give you two options. The first option involves mini reeses peanut butter cups, and the second option involves multicolored fruit by the foot. The reeses brooms will stand up on their own, but the fbtf brooms will be really colorful. It really just depends on your preference, because both are easy to make and come out really awesome.

What you will need:
-A bag of pretzel sticks (I recommend Snyder's of Hanover, but feel free to get your favorite thin stick pretzels)

EITHER
-One or two bags of mini reeses cups
OR
-One box of  assorted Fruit by the Foot (You probably need a box of 6 or 12 fruit by the foots).
-a pair of scissors

Step 1: Prepwork

Open the bag of pretzels.

If you are making the reeses broomsticks:
Unwrap reeses cups (take off foil and paper) and turn cups upside down. The small bottom circle should be facing up. (This is something that kids can do, and it can help them to develop fine motor skills.)

If you are making the fruit by the foot broomsticks:
Take off the wrapper. Start unraveling the candy and cut the fruit by the foot into two inch long pieces. Leave the paper on. Then cut thin fringes into the two inch long piece. (If you show a child how to do this, you can give them child friendly scissors, and they can cut the rest of the fringes)

Step 2: Put It All Together!

This whole step is kid friendly but would possibly require some assistance or at least supervision.

With the reeses broomsticks:
Stick a pretzel in the middle of the top part of the reeses cup. I like to turn mine like you would a screw, as to not break the peanut butter cup. Arrange these however you would like to on a plate. Then put them in the refrigerator or freezer until you are ready to serve them (don't freeze these for too long, it will make the pretzels funky)

With the fruit by the foot broomsticks:
Take the paper off the fruit by the foot. Loosely wrap your two inch long fringed piece around the bottom of a pretzel stick. The fringed part should be sticking out on the bottom. Pinch the top edge of the fruit by the foot onto the pretzel. Arrange them as you would like on a plate and serve!
