Introduction: Yummy Garlic Naan

- Materials List -

¼ cup warm water

1 Tablespoon sugar

2 ¼ teaspoons active dry yeast

¾ cup warm milk

3/4 cup Greek Yogurt

4 cups all-purpose Flour

1 teaspoon salt

½ cup unsalted butter

4 cloves of garlic (minced)

2 tablespoons of unsalted butter

Fresh Cilantro

Step 1:

The first thing you want to do is combine your yeast, sugar, and water in a small bowl. Let sit for about 10 min until it is slightly foamy. You don’t have to mix or whisk them together, just let the yeast, sugar, and water sit.

Step 2:

While your yeast, sugar, and water and sitting, combine your flour and salt in a separate, larger bowl.

Step 3:

Next, combine your milk and yogurt by whisking them in a separate container. Once combined, pour the yeast mixture into it and combine those.

Step 4:

Combine your wet and dry ingredients until a loose dough is formed.

Step 5:

With a floured surface, knead the dough until it is smooth. It will take about 3-5 min and it will seem like it is not working but trust me, it will come together and you’ll get a nice arm workout!

Step 6:

Put the dough into a lightly oiled container and cover it loosely. Let it rise for 1 hour.

Step 7:

Remove from container and knead the dough very lightly into a disk that is easy to cut.

Step 8:

Split the dough into 12 equal (or about equal) parts (using a knife for the cleanest cut). Roll the pieces into a ball.

Step 9:

Roll out each piece into a thin disk.

Step 10:

Put a skillet over medium heat and add 2 tablespoons of unsalted butter. IMPORTANT, do not add the butter until the pan has heated up and you are ready to cook the naan. Butter easily burns if left alone cooking for too long.

Step 11:

Melt 3 tablespoons of salted butter and coat the naan dough disks.

Step 12:

Place the naan to cook until bubbles are formed (about 2 min) and then flip for 2 more minutes. Once you are done cooking all the pieces place them on a plate and cover them with a towel to keep them warm.

Step 13:

Next, take 4 cloves of garlic and mince them or get your pre-minced garlic ready. Using the same pan, turn the heat back to medium and using the remaining melted butter (or adding more depending on what you have left) add the minced garlic. Combine with the butter and a pinch of salt and cook on medium for about 30 seconds-1 minute.

Step 14:

Using a strainer, pour the contents of the pan into a container to separate the garlic from the garlic butter.

Step 15:

Using a basting brush or any tool of your choice, spread the garlic butter on each naan and add a few cilantro leaves. Then, enjoy!!!!
