Introduction: Air Fryer Cake

About: Hello and Welcome to In the Kitchen With Matt. I am your host Matt Taylor. My goal for the show is to teach you how to cook really good food at home for cheap. Eating out everyday can get expensive, but it doe…

In this instructable I will show you how to make a cake in air fryer. Air Fryer cakes are really easy to make and tend to bake a bit faster then the ones done in the oven. Air fryers are cool kitchen tools which are essentially small mini convection ovens. For the cake, I am using a store bought cake mix this time, but you can use any of the cake recipes I have shown here on instructables. Using an air fryer to bake a cake is super easy to do if I can do it, you can do it, let's get started!

Don't forget to follow me and check out my other instructables. :)

If you have any questions or comments leave them down below and I will get back to you as soon as I can.

Follow the easy steps below or watch the short video tutorial or do both. :)

Step 2: Cake Batter

First make your cake batter. I am using a store bought cake mix here, but you can use any of the cakes that I have shown here on instructables or your favorite cake batter for the most part. This batter requires eggs, oil, and water, I just followed the instructions on the back of the box. Mix it up well with a hand mixer and it is ready to go.

Step 3: Prep the Cake Pan

Now we want to prep our cake pan. I am using a special air fryer cake pan that came in an air fryer accessory kit. But any cake pan that will fit in the air fryer will work. I greased the inside of the pan with shortening and then floured it. I also place a round piece of parchment paper on the bottom, the round parchment paper also came in that same accessory kit. I really don't want my cake to stick to the pan.

Step 4: Fill It Up

Next fill up the cake pan a little over half way full. Then add a cake strip around the outside of the pan. First soak the cake strip and then wring it out before use. The cake strips help to promote even baking, so the sides of the pan don't get really brown and more done then the middle of the cake, also, they help to keep the cake from doming in the middle.

Step 5: Air Fryer Time!

No set your air fryer to 350 F (176 C) and the time for about 20 minutes. Let the air fryer heat up for 3 minutes before putting the cake in it. I love how fast they heat up. Bake the cake for 17 minutes.

Step 6: Check the Cake

After 17 minutes of cooking time, check the cake with a toothpick. Make sure to check the very center. If the toothpick comes out clean it is ready to go. This cake wasn't quite ready yet, so I put it back in the air fryer for about 5 minutes longer. Be careful with the pan it will be hot! I have some neat little silicone lobster claws that I use for handling the pan.

Step 7: Cool Down

Once our cake has baked long enough and the toothpick comes out clean, remove the cake from the air fryer and let it cool in the pan for about 10 minutes. After that flip the pan over with your hand on the cake which will release the cake from the pan. Next take off the parchment paper. Then place it on a wire rack to cool completely.

Step 8: Decoration Time

Now once the cake has cool you can frost it and add whatever toppings you would like. In this case I used some homemade buttercream frosting and chocolate sprinkles on the top. Enjoy! :)
