Step 2: Prep the Apples

First preheat the oven to 350 F (176 C). Next peel and chop up your apples. You can leave the peel on if you wish. Next add your white granulated sugar, 1 tsp. of your 2 tsp. of ground cinnamon, and your lemon juice. Then with a spoon mix them all together, until the apples are well coated.

Step 3: Mix Other Ingredients

Now in a large bowl add the brown sugar, flour, oats, salt, remaining 1 tsp. of cinnamon, and then whisk to combine. :)

Step 4: Cut in the Butter

Now we need to take our cubed cold butter and add it to our topping mixture. Then use a fork or pastry blender/cutter to work in the butter. Keep cutting it and blending it until the mixture resembles course crumbs or damp sand.

Step 5: Place, Top, Bake

Next we place the apple mixture in an 8x8 buttered pan. You can spray your pan with kitchen spray too if you like. I like using butter for this particular dish. Then add your toppings on top. Now bake it in the oven for 40 to 50 minutes at 350 F (176 C) until the top is nice and golden brown. If you like your apples more soft, bake it closer to 50 minutes. Put foil over the top if it is getting too brown. In my oven it takes right around 43 to 45 minutes.

*** I encourage you to make it as is the first time. Then if you make it again, play with the sweetness. If you want it less sweet, add a bit less white granulated sugar and brown sugar. If you want it to have more lemon flavor, add more lemon juice, and a bit of lemon zest. :) :)

Step 6: Plate It, Top It, Serve It!

Now all we need to do is let it cool for a few minutes, then plate it while it is still warm. Add a scoop of vanilla ice cream and drizzle some caramel sauce on top. Oh yeah! Enjoy! : )
