Introduction: Chocolate Brownie Graveyard

I wanted to make something for a Halloween party I am going to so I wanted to share it with you. If it is past Halloween (most-likely) the brownie is really good on its own. Please comment with any ways i can improve as this is my first Instructable. Thanks please vote for me!

Step 1: Step 1 - Ingredients and Pre-Heat

These are the ingredients are for only the brownies.
  • 200g Dark Chocolate
  • 230g Butter
  • 340g Caster Sugar
  • 3 Large Eggs
  • 2 Teaspoons Vanilla Extract
  • 1/2 or 1 Shot of Espresso
  • 110g Plain Flour
  • 2 Teaspoons Baking Powder

(The espresso is needed even if you don't like coffee)

Also pre-heat the oven to 180 degrees c. This can also be done in a Aga in the hot oven.

Step 2: Step 2 - Melting

Melt the butter and both chocolates over boiling water. Breaking the chocolate into smaller pieces can speed up the melting.

Step 3: Step 3 - Main Mix

In a large mixing bowl add sugar, eggs, vanilla extract and coffee (cold is best) and stir. It will not completely mix and stay for a long time this is normal.

Step 4: Step 4 - Finishing the Main Mix

Once the butter and chocolate has melted add it to the main mix and stir. Do not worry it should be very runny.

Once you have mixed the mixes together add the flour and mix once again.

Step 5: Step 5 - Tinning

Get a large flat tin around 2cm tall and 24cm wide and 34cm long although this is the size I used you can use almost any flat tin. Cover the tin with grease-proof paper and pour in the mix into the tin and bake in your oven at 180 degrees c for at least 25 min but probably 30 min when you take it out it will still be slightly soft but it will look spongy on the outside.

Step 6: Step 6 - Gravestones and Pumpkins

For the gravestones I used these Milano chocolate things but any oval-ish shaped cookies works. First chop off one end in my opinion when cut them off a little diagonal it looked better. I just used some store bought writing icing and wrote the traditional 'RIP'

For the pumpkins againIi used shop bought fondant and made them into little(ish) balls and put green icing stalks on half of them. I tried faces but they didn't really work.

Step 7: Step 7 - Cooling

Once the brownie is done it will need cooling before you do anything. I would recommend leaving it in the tin and letting cool for around a hour just to be safe.

Step 8: Step 8 - Getting Out the Tin

It is harder than it sounds...

  1. Turn it upside-down on to a spare tray
  2. Remove tin and grease-proof paper
  3. Put your final tray upside-down one the bottom of the upturned brownie
  4. Flip both trays and take off the spare tray
  5. Done

It doesn't sound to hard but many a brownie I have ruined at this stage.

Step 9: Step 9 - Adding Gravestones and Pumpkins and a Half Dug Grave

This step is quite easy.

To add the gravestones you slot them into the brownie (that simple)

With the pumpkins that already have stalks place them around the place.

The pumpkins without the stalks you need to place close to each other (Picture 3) and connect them using the green you used earlier.(Picture 4)

Also I used a spoon to dig out a what was meant to be a empty grave with the exavated brownie in a pile on the side with cola lace wormes

Step 10: Step 10 - ENJOY!
