Today i'm going to teach you all how to make a delicious summer time treat: The Fred Collins Fizz!

Here's what you'll need.

  • Bourbon Whiskey
  • Simple Syrup
  • Lemon Juice
  • Orange Curacao
  • Lemonade
  • Shaved Ice
  • Shaker
  • Strainer
  • 2 Tall glasses

For the Bourbon pick something good. You're getting a lot of flavor out of it so if you pick something terrible the drink will suffer. For the Lemonade i highly recommend using homemade lemonade as it'll really make the drink explode with flavor. Lastly For the lemon juice the fresher the better.

Step 1: Whiskey

Grab a tumbler and fill it 3/4ths of the way full with ice.

Then measure out 2 ounces of your preferred bourbon or rye whiskey and pour it into the tumbler.

Step 2: Lemon Juice

Either squeeze 1 whole lemon into the tumbler or use 1.5 ounces of fresh squeezed lemon juice.

Step 3: Simple Syrup

Just a scant 1/2 an ounce of simple syrup into the tumbler

Step 4: Shake

Put your top on your tumbler and shake till it's ice cold and frost starts to form on the outside.

Step 5: Shaved Ice

In a tall glass add 1-2 scoops of shaved ice.

Step 6: Strain

Strain your shaken cocktail into the shaved ice.

Step 7: Orange Curacao

Float a layer of orange curacao on top. if you can't find orange curacao triple sec will work as well.

Step 8: Lemonade

In a second glass add 4 - 6 ounces of lemonade. How much lemonade is personal preference i prefer 4 in mine.

Step 9: Transfer

This step seems convoluted but the pouring the first mixture into the second is what creates the fizz part of the fred Collins fizz.

Step 10: Enjoy

That's all there is to it.

Variations:

Using Limeade instead of lemonade adds a bittersweet tartness that is great.

Using Flavored whiskeys changes the flavor palette in good ways. My suggestions would be Apple, Blackberry and Honey

Substituting the Simple Syrup with flavored syrups is also delicious. I recommend passion fruit and raspberry.
