Introduction: Homemade Twix Bars Recipe

About: Hey y'all! My name is Lydia and I want to share my passion for cooking/baking with everyone!

Twix are easily one of my favorite chocolate candy desserts. The crispiness from the biscuit and the gooeyness caramelization and milk chocolate that covered these bars are just perfection. So I set out to try to make this favorite of mine at home. Now I must say, I am a Twix snob and this dessert is pretty good, but it just can’t replace my love for the actual chocolate candy bar. However, if you are looking for a dessert bar, it does the job. So, if you want to make your own Homemade Twix Bars at home, follow along step by step and check out the video tutorial if you’d like. Let’s go!

Supplies

Step 1: Ingredients

  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened (229 g)
  • ½ cup powdered sugar (65 g)
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour (199 g)
  • ¼ teaspoon salt (1 g)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract (5 g)
  • 1 Tablespoon heavy whipping cream (14 g)
  • 1 (11 oz) package Kraft caramel bits
  • 1 (11.5 oz) package milk chocolate chips

Step 2: Cream Butter and Sugar

Preheat oven to 350-degree F and line a 9x9 inch baking dish with parchment paper.

In a large mixing bowl, cream butter and powdered sugar until well combined. I used a rubber spatula to get the powdered sugar mixed into the soften better and then I used a hand mixer to cream everything together.

Step 3: Add Flour, Salt and Vanilla

Add in flour, salt, and vanilla and beat for 2-3 minutes until dough starts to form a ball or if using a hand mixer the dough will look crumbly but it will come together if pinched.

Step 4: Press Dough Into Baking Dish

Press dough evenly into prepared baking dish.

Step 5: Bake

Bake for 20-25 minutes or until edges become lightly browned. Remove from oven and cool completely.

Step 6: Melt Caramel

Add whipping cream and caramel to a microwave-safe bowl. Microwave in 30 second intervolves stirring in between until melted (you can do this over a double boiler also). Stir until smooth.

Step 7: Add to Shorthbread

Pour caramel over cooled shortbread. Spread evenly.

Step 8: Melt Chocolate

Melt chocolate in a microwave safe bowl in 30 second intervolves, stirring in between until the chocolate is completely melted and smooth (you can do this over a double boiler also).

Step 9: Top Bars With Melted Chocolate

Add the melted chocolate to the top of the caramel. Spread it out evenly on top and allow to set.

Step 10: Cut

Cut into bars. It may be easier to refrigerate the bars and cut while slightly firm.
