Introduction: How to Make a Pop Tart #HMS2020

I learned how to make a pop tart because I have always been curious about how a pop tart is made because I always see it at the grocery store. Pop-tarts are delicious and are easy to make Heres how:

Supplies

-strawberries

-water

-sugar

-a lemon

-cornstarch

-powdered sugar

-milk

-Pillsbury pre-made crescent dough sheet

-an egg

-oil

-a baking pan

-a fork

Step 1: Filling

First, cut 8-10 strawberries into small pieces. Then, put the strawberries in a pan with 6 tablespoons of water and 4 tablespoons of sugar on medium heat. Stir for two minutes then add one tablespoon of lemon juice. Next, In a small bowl, mix two tablespoons of water and two tablespoons of cornstarch. Then, add the mixture to the pan and stir until it thickens. Once it's done put it in a bowl.

Step 2: Assembling

First, oil a baking pan (or put parchment paper). Then, preheat the oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit and lay out the dough on a floured surface. In a bowl, mix one egg yolk and two tablespoons of water and mix, this makes egg wash. Next, cut the dough into even rectangles and place onto the baking pan. Then, add egg wash on the sides of the dough. Next, add the filling in the middle and place another piece of dough on top but slice lines to make holes. Then, press the sides with a fork and add the egg wash. Repeat until the pan is full and put it in the oven. Bake until it's golden-brown

Step 3: Icing/glaze

Mix together 1 cup of powdered sugar,2-3 tablespoons of milk, and 2 tablespoons of leftover filling in a bowl. Mix it together until it's smooth. Also, make sure that there are no lumps of powdered sugar. Then, add glaze after the pop tarts have come out of the oven and cooled.

Step 4: Conclusion

A few problems that came up during the process of making this was the dough. I kept trying to make my own but it didn't really end up well. So I just bought some from the store and replaced the stuff to make dough with that in the recipe. Another thing is the texture. I made them too soft so they were more like soggy pop tarts so I suggest to put them in the oven longer.
