This is how I cut large circular slabs on the table saw. In the years before high power consumer routers this is how it was always done. Sort of a lost art that seems to invite rage from those who don't know better. Having done it both ways, I like the smooth and easy simplicity of that as opposed to trying to make multiple cuts with a router and trying to keep it from gouging each time you lower and start it.
