Step 1: Layout & Sand
So to start i cut some scrap oak and pine to the size and shape i wanted, and sanded to 120, just to save time later on.
i also labeled the inlay pieces as right and left so i knew which on went where.
Step 2: Chisel
Once i traced the inlay pieces onto the oak i went on to chiseling out a recess for the inlay.
As the pieces where small i took my time and tried to make it a tight fit.
Before i glued it in place i did a dry fit.
Step 3: Glue Up
Now onto the glue up,
I used a good amount of glue on this and used my mallet to make sure the inlay pieces where in place and not going anywhere, next i just clamped it up and waited for the glue to dry.
Step 4: Sanding
Now everyone's favorite.
I sanded from 120, 240, 320,500 and finished off at 1,200.
Step 5: Finish and Cord - Job Done
Thats it , i put 4 coats of gloss lacquer on sanding at 1,200 in between each coat.
Then tested the cords i have in stock and when i start selling customers will be able to order whichever leather cord they want making it even more personal.
I hope you enjoy!
