Paracord Phiten Necklace

Phitens have become popular in the sports world. To bad they are over $20. In this intractable I wall show you how to make one out of paracord for under $2. You will have enough cord left over to make a bracelet too.

Step 1: Materials

1. 16 Ft. of paracord
       - You need two strands(a and b)
      - This also works with two colors
       - I got 16 ft for $1.79 at JAX

2. Scissors

3. A Fire Source

Step 2: Determine Neck Length

First you need to determine what length you want you necklace to be. This is just personal preference. After you choose the length add an inch an then double the length and fold it in half.

Step 3: Make Your Loop

Now we make the loop. Go about an inch down from the fold and make a over hand knot.

Step 4: Start the Braid/ Knoting

The strand that has the knot is gonna be strand "a" and the other one is strand "b". Fold Strand "b" in half and drape it over strand "a". Now fold both ends of strand "a" over strand "b".  Then do the same with strand "b" but cross it over strand "a". Just  keep doin that until you reach the end. Leave about 2 in. on the end for finishing it off.

Step 5: Finish Up

Tie two knots to seal it. Then make a monkey knot or an overhand knot to be used as the way it stays around your neck. Then trim the ends and burn them to keep them from fraying.

Step 6: Finished

Done. Now you saved $18 on a Phiten, and it is custom made.

Actually they contain titanium mesh, which could easily be incorporated into this design.

May I suggest using a lighter instead. It would be more comfortable where the burning occurred, and look better just because only the tip would be burnt

Ya I agree with you there. I usually use one but didn't have access to one that night.

And the other sad thing is you didn't even do it very well.. It doesn't even look like a Phiten it looks like a badly woven 4 strand.. Anyone who wants to do this instructable just look at my instructable in the related colum

You know I wasn't trying to make your necklace I was making my own. It was supposed to resemble a Phiten NOT look exactly like one. AND last time I checked yours isn't a Phiten either. So keep your non helpful thoughts to your self and remember that is is a website to SHARE ideas with people. So you can't get mad when someone takes SOME aspects of something you made and use it in their instructable. And in the future if you comment on someones instructable how about you say something that actually helps them.

Actually mine isn't copying yours, i looked at yours and then make improvements in the design.

Wow, really!?! You just took my instruct able and copied it. Dude way to mooch off of other people's work! Not cool man not cool....

I have a phiten myself, and a way to improve this neclace would be to decrease the space between the braid and the closure. But other than that, the likeness is astonishing! And this one is customizable!
