This is pen stand with a secret compartment at the bottom which can be accessed by those who know the secret to opening it. It is made from some simple household materials, so this should be simple to make.

Step 1: Items Needed

For this project you need :-

Materials

1. Cardboard (replace it with plastic)

2. Metal/ plastic box (can be square or circle)

3. Nail (i changed from a small one as the hole became too big)

4. Spray Paint (i chose black, you can use any colour as long as you spray paint everything)

Tools

1. Hot Glue Gun and hot glue sticks

2. Hammer

3. Scissors

4. Utility/Craft knife

5. Hacksaw

Step 2: Making the Top for the Compartment

NOTE: PLEASE DO NOT USE PLASTIC, I REALIZED IT WAS NOT A GOOD MATERIAL LATER ON, USE CARDBOARD INSTEAD

Mark out the box on the cardboard and see that it fits perfectly over the top of your box.

(trim until it fits inside the box)

Step 3: Making the Stand

Cut out a few squares (not too big) and hot glue them in a stack.
NOTE: THE HIGHER THE STACK, THE LARGER THE ITEMS YOU CAN HIDE

Next, Glue the top piece to the stack somewhere close to the center (doesn't have to be in the exact center, but you can if you like)

Step 4: Painting Time

Go ahead and paint everything one colour : the box, the compartment (i ended up covering it with black card paper) and even the nail.

Step 5: Cutting Time

Cut the box at the length you want your pens to be at. Keep in mind of the length of the compartment, so its better you leave extra.

You can cut the top off fully, or leave one side to give it a lid.

Step 6: Mechanism - Building

Make a hole at the base of the box, close to the center (doesn't have to be perfect, again) and then enlarge it by making a hole in the same spot with a bigger nail (here is why i changed to a bigger nail)

Step 7: Mechanism - How It Works

When you push the nail from the hole with the compartment put at the base, the compartment will get pushed to a side, revealing the secret storage area. Make sure to remove the pens before opening the secret storage.

You could also make a small arrow pointing what side should be facing the top of the box while resetting the mechanism
