Hello there fellow Instructables users!
For my next fairly-simple project, I have created the "RGB-oard." This is also known as the RGB LED Headboard. In the next few steps you will learn how to make this easy, DIY project that adds a bit of "spark" to the bedroom.
The project is low cost, however a little wear-and-tear is needed on the headboard.
Step 1: Materials
For this project you will need:
1. A Storage Headboard - This may fit to any size bed (I have a twin bed) but should be able to conceal the LEDs
2. Ikea's Dioder Set - this kit contains 4 RGB LED "sticks" that are detractable from the others. The kit also comes with an RGB controller to change the color of the LEDs
3. Velcro Strips - about 4 pairs (have extra just in case)
4. A Drill
5. A nearby power outlet - unless, of course, you want to hook it up to a battery.
Step 2: Let's Work!
Unfortunately, in order to conceal the LEDs, we must drill holes in the breadboard for the wire to run through. Plug in your drill (a drill bit a bit larger than the width of the wire is needed). Drill one hole in each of the storage compartments in the top left or right hand corner. To test if it is large enough, run the Dioder wire through. Be very careful not to make the mistake of "shredding" the headboard - many are made of plywood.
Step 3: Velcro
Now, place a strip of Velcro on the back side of all strips needed (depending on how many compartments in your headboard). Then, place the other strip of Velcro on the very top-front of the headboard compartment. Place it in a way of which it couldn't be seen when standing.
Place another strip on the back of the color control, and one in the front-hand corner of a compartment.
NOTE: Do NOT use the sticky foam tape that comes in the Dioder kit, or else the led strips will repetitively fall.
The pictures above may help.
Step 4: Hook-up
This part is easy! Simply hook up all the LED strips to the color control, slip the wire into the drilled holes, and plug it in!
Step 5: That's It!
Have fun making the project (I hope you do);
Thank's for viewing!
