    Tried what I learned here on an old pair of Allen Edmonds boots I found at a thrift store I donate to. Only 2$ and they came with shoe trees. So beat up and scuffed and not a color I care for. Stripped with acetone they looked even worse. The scuffs were lighter but the scratches, pits and scars were dark against a pale colorless leather. I used only the cordovan dye as it appeared quite reddish to my eye. After Meltonian cream and wax polish, they came out pretty good. Definitely good with boots and the damage is much harder to see. One thing I note, although the shoes finished quite reddish, after 5 days, they've actually darkened further to a much darker brown than when I was finished.
