Thank you for the inspiration!! Here I go digging out of my recycle bin :-)
When you remove the old spring/gasket assembly, and come back to put the new one in, did you see standing water in there? I would assume if the shut-off valves are closed, and if you sucked the water out to remove the old spring, that you would not see water. Why would there still be water?
