Nice explanation. The 5252 chip and associated circuit does not constitute a joule theif circuit though. It is actually closer to a DC-DC converter. A joule theif circuit has a transformer (two windings).
Looks good. I think you will need a preamp section for electric guitar amplification. The LM386 alone will not work well for the magnetic pickups on the guitar.
So there are some details that have been left out of the instructable. Like ; 1. What is the voltage of the motor? 2. Where is the schematic?3. Does it have good torque? 4. How des the circuit work?Like a lot of these instructables, you can make something but you really dont learn anything. Hense the instructable really doesn't instruct.
I went looking for an arduino basic "get started" and the article leaves out how to connect the arduino to the programming pc or even a description of the arduino circuit board. Not basic enough for beginners.
Great science project. Although due to the high voltage and extreme electromagnetic radiation it has no commercial use and the FCC may want you to put it in a faraday cage.

Big problem. All plastics I know of are waterproof, this isn't and will melt.

You cant use the 12 volt relay in a 5 volt circuit.
Here is a link to how i changed it.
Heres the link
Take out the pushbutton switches and their resistors, they are not needed for operation or calibration. That makes it more understandable. Connect the dump output back to the battery through a 15 watt incandescent light bulb for float charging.
So it doesnt start charging until the battery drops to 12 volts? Shouldnt it keep charging but at a lower current? I would connect the dump relay contact back to the battery but through a current limit resistor. That way it would float charge until the battery drops to 12 volts. What do you think?
This circuit is not pwm. It is a voltage window comparator.
