I keep the brown sugar from clumping by spooning it into a cup and I add in a little bit of the other ingredients at a time and mix it in the cup. Once it's grainy and "dry" (not clumping at all) in the cup then I pour it into the big bowl and mix everything together. I get no clumping and nice even distribution.
