I'm a retired lawyer and current woodturner, woodworker, DIYer and sometimes sewist. Although I spend the lion's share of my time in the workshop and on the lathe, I've gotten into some small project quilting and am getting more proficient with the sewing machine. My blog is way behind, but it will give you any idea of some of the things I do.

View Instructable »I used the 5-layer thermal insulating material, fastened all around the periphery of the window with hook/loop (Velcro-like) material. This allows the window covers to be moved and removed. They did a great job of insulating, now that we've had a winter to try them out. While plastic film might help with air infiltration I don't think it would actually add much R-value. Also you can't easily move or remove it - for example, if you've got a run of a few unseasonably hot days.

Good idea, especially to reduce draft infiltration. Not sure it would add much insulation factor.
