Good job! I'm a big fan of keeping old computers running - I'm doing my physics PhD with a couple of antique Dell and Panasonic laptops running Linux Mint. It's amazing how much better things run on Linux than Windows. You can often get really cheap aftermarket batteries for more common models but beware that they won't be OEM quality - often good enough though.
