and to add to that if it's just in the middle of the room is best not add MDF cause instead it of letting waves go further away it will reflect.
I'm really confused as to why you put the MDF board in there. I've done tons of research on this subject but am by no means a pro. but from my understanding the air gap is supposed to be between the insulation and a wall. Not MDF board and a wall. This should in theory catch SOME high end and pretty close to no low end at all.
Fair enough. I just think both sides should be mentioned when talking about an air gap. using roxul over 703 is usually cheaper as well.
this is not true. It's dependant on thickness of pannels and density. For example if you use roxul safe n' sound at 6" of depth flush mounted, it will out preform a 4" deep pannels with a 2" airgap made out of a denser material. Regardless great design here.
looks great, only improvement I would make is filling the cavity 1/4 full with some rockboard 80 to dampen any resonance going on in the box and improve the response coming out the bass holes.
Dude solder a jack on that bad boy, telling people to do that is dangerous especially using masking tape and not electrical tape. Even if it is low amperage some kid might go trying this on something else.
