Good Job, Thanks for sharing.
Very nice project and great presentation. Good luck on your fund raising.
I've tried the hot melt glue/wood glue trick and have a comment: The hot melt glue is much thicker than the wood glue and when clamped it's almost impossible to get a really tight glue joint. and wood glue joints that span any gap are not as strong as tight joints. I've had better success using cyanoacrylate (super glue) for quick bonding while the wood glue cures. For that matter the super glue works well by itself but it's expensive.

Very useful especially for small or odd shaped parts. Thanks for sharing.
Great idea and I just may build one. But it seems that after each slice a little bit of cheese would be pushed into the slot and build up. Have you found that to be no concern?
How did you attach the top to the base? Nice work. I can appreciate the heavy lifting. I did bar top a few years ago and had to recruit people off the street every time I needed to move it.
I made one of these lots of years ago and still use it regularly. I actually made it as an exercise in making something completely by hand-no power tools allowed. I was pretty happy with the results except when using it the head has a tendency to slide up (away from the user) the handle. I partially fixed this by adding a wedge between the head and the handle. Still slides a bit. Next time I would add a shoulder on the hand side of the handle and cut angled slots for wedges in the top end of the handle. Like a regular claw hammer.
Very ingenious. Great idea. I love simple practical solutions.
I've seen a similar thing done with a boiled egg and bottle. The bottle was heated and the egg was placed at the top. When the air in the bottle cooled it created a vacuum strong enough to pull the egg into the bottle.
I applaud the concept but PLEASE have you been at all watching the news lately? Waving a cardboard weapon is just as likely to get your butt shot as if it were an actual AR 15! A 12 yr old in Cleve. was shot, no questions asked, playing with with a toy gun. Another person was shot in a store holding a BB gun he picked up in another aisle. The list goes on... please folks be careful out there.
