1. Do not sample from finger pads/tips as shown - but use the side of the finger - it's much less painful.2. Alternative site sampling is not changing which finger to sample from - but to sample from a site other than a finger. ( ie palm/base of thumb/ arm/leg ) . you should do this if your normal finger sites are unavailable - or over sensative. The capillary blood in the fingers has a very good blood supply (there are arteries up both sides of the finger) glucose concentrations at alternate sites may lag behind finger site values.
